New Beginnings

Welcome to the

Gollaher Family Update

August 19, 2013
I have thought about and tried this "blog thing" before, unsuccessfully I might add.  This time, I am going to try something a little different.  I have seen other blogs about families and just keeping others updated and thought it was a wonderful idea.  Of course, they take wonderful pictures of their children and spouses and are probably religious about keeping it updated, all of which I will need to improve upon in my life!  As this school year commences, I am setting a new goal for myself to try to keep this blog current, relevant, and hopefully fun to follow in case anyone has any interest in what is going on with my family.

That being said, let me introduce you to the cast of this comedy:

This is Ben.  Or Benji.  Or Benjamin.  Or BoBo.  Or *()@#&^$&^  depending on the day!  He is our youngest, our most-stubborn-outgoing-afraid-of-the-dark-hilarious prankster.  He is my buddy at times, and my nemesis at others.  He hates his sister, loves bacon, wants to swim all the time, and wants a little brother more than anything (NOT going to happen!).  He is a master with Legos, wants everyone around him to laugh and be happy, and gets very grumpy when dinner is late!

Next is Anna.  She is the oldest child, and very much acts like it!  She reads at a twelfth-grade level (she is in fifth grade this year), straight A student, fantastic soccer player, and does her best at whatever she is doing.  To be fair, she also hates her brother, but doesn't let anyone else pick on him -- that's her job!  She reads like it is going out of style, loves zebra print on anything, changes her mind at the drop of a hat, and loves to wrap her daddy around her little finger as tightly as possible!  As we enter the preteen years, the hormones are tweaking and we are all having to adjust accordingly.  She is Miss Independant, as verified by the Council of Gollahers, and loves to take care of her little cousins and smallish neighbors.

Then there is my partner-in-crime, my puzzle piece, my ever-loving and thoughtful wife Rachel.  I don't know why she tolerates me, much less loves me, but she does.  Every day.  She laughs at me, and sometimes with me, but especially when I need someone to laugh!  She reminds me to be kind to others, to help others in need, and do what I can to make the world a better place.  Before you go thinking she is angelic or something, I have to tell you that she has a Coke obsession (as in the soda, you sicko!), a self-admitted procrastinator, and she occasionally yells at the kids too!  We all have our faults.  She takes care of the kids better than anyone else ever could, she works full time but still has time to make my business look good on social media, and she seems to never stop doing something around the house to make it better.  We are on the roller coaster of love called marriage, designed with lots of ups and downs, but as long as we ride it together, we are having a blast and keep smiling!

Finally, here I am.  I am goofy, loving, and deeply committed to my family.  I depend on my sense of humor, my strong back, my quick wit, and my self-proclaimed intelligence (I know a little about a lot of things).  I am known for my "magic hands" on the massage table, as an assistant coach for Anna's soccer and volleyball teams, and only help Ben with his Lego creations anymore.  I enjoy spending time with the family at Holiday World and I like my alone time with my iPad.  I have trouble taking serious pictures, but that goes back to my sense of humor, or quirkiness, but what's the difference?  I start a lot of projects but I never finish anythin...

So welcome to Family Updates.  My goal is to try to keep this blog updates, at least weekly, or as important events happen in the life of the Gollahers.  Welcome.  Strap yourself down.  And try to keep all hands and feet inside the ride at all times!
