Axel, the Ninja Turtle birthday boy
We attended the 4th birthday party this past weekend for our great-nephew, Axel. It was held at his grandparents' house at the pool, and everyone had a great time! There were lots of family, friends and food, so it was a successful party, in my opinion.
It was not only nice to be there with family, just to have some fun and see everyone, but also to feel included. Sometimes, being with family is not about where you are or what you are doing, but just being together. It means spending time together, getting to know one another and just having a nice time.
Eliza was a swimming wonder until she wore out and her brother Hank got his fill!
It was also fun to have all those little ones running about, splashing, squirting one another with squirt guns and playing on the slide. Marcia's Ninja Turtle cake, which she intentionally did not photograph because she had SO much fun making it, was very cute, as her cakes always are! We actually snuck a picture of the cake, but no one tell her.

Mostly, it was an enjoyable day for some good family time. Rachel's cold kept her out of the pool most of the day, but the kids and I worked on our tans and just enjoyed playing and fighting in the water. Honestly, at this age, the kids fight most of the time, but sometimes, there are moments in between fights that we have a nice time!
At the end of the day, we enjoyed spending some time with David and Marcia, the wonderful hosts, and their kiddos. You cannot always choose your family, but it is so nice when you enjoy what family you have and like to spend time with them!
